There are Black Friday sales promotions that make us groan, others that make us do a double take because the offer is too good to be true, and those where we openly cheer for the consumer simply because the business behind the promotion believes they'll never have to honor their end of the bargain.

If you're in the market for a new car and are an amateur Skilling, then a sales promotion being offered by a suburban auto dealership may be to your liking. Bill Kay Buick GMC in Downer's Grove is having a "White Friday" promotion where they'll reimburse the purchase of a new GMC or Buick bought between Nov. 28 and Nov. 29, but only if the official snowfall total at O'Hare International Airport on Christmas Day reaches six inches or more. Oh, to pray for a blizzard just to see the frozen egg on the faces of the car salesmen there.

Currently the odds favor the dealer. According to Illinois State climatologist Jim Angel, there is a 50 percent chance at most the Chicago area could see snowfall on Christmas Day, let alone six inches. But Mother Nature is a harsh mistress and doesn't like car dealers, or any salesmen, fucking with her.

Last winter a Mundelein jeweler ran a similar promotion and offered refunds to customers if it three or more inches of snowfall fell on New Year's Day. Only 2.1 inches of powder were recorded, saving the jeweler from refunding $150,000 in sales.
