The woman who was mortally wounded Friday in a domestic violence shooting incident at a downtown Chicago Nordstrom has been identified.

Nadia Ezaldein was shot Friday, the day of her 22nd birthday, by her ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Marcus Dee. After Dee shot Ezaldein, he turned the gun on himself. Ezaldein died of her wounds Saturday evening, the day after her birthday.

Ezaldein's family had planned a surprise birthday party for her after she completed her shift Friday. Ezaldein was a seasonal employee of the Michigan Avenue store.

Nordstrom released a statement through its Facebook page:

"We are deeply saddened to learn that our employee who was injured in Friday evening's tragedy at our Michigan Avenue store passed away this afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. We will miss her. "

According to family members, Dee had been tormenting Ezaldein and her family. The Chicago Tribune paints a profoundly distressing picture:

Ezaldein began dating Dee in August 2012 after meeting him through her older sister's roommate, they said. Dee physically abused and beat the woman throughout the relationship, and in December 2013, threatened her by inserting a handgun into her mouth, the victim's family said. The incident resulted in a hospital visit and the victim ending the relationship.

In the year since, Dee had harassed both the woman and her family members by making threatening calls to her father and siblings, family members said. The victim changed her number three times as a result, they said.

Ezaldein also tried to request an order of protection but backed out of the request when Dee threatened to kill himself if she went through with it, family members said. Relatives said the woman was also hesitant to report abuse or harassment because Dee's parents were police officers

Chicago Police at that. Given CPD's squeaky clean reputation, Ezaldein's reluctance comes as something of a shock. [not.]

DNAinfo reports that "Ezaldein had been placed on life support as doctors prepared her organs for donation" Saturday.
