Morton Salt Facility Wall Collapsed, Cars Buried In A Sea Of Salt

A wall at the Morton Salt facility on Elston Ave in the Goose Island neighborhood partially collapsed this afternoon, sending a massive wave of salt crashing onto cars parked next door at an Acura dealership.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, no one was injured but at least half a dozen cars were covered in salt. Brandon Wall, who works at the Sun-Times, pointed out that Morton's company slogan is "When It Rains It Pours."

WGN was able to grab some aerial footage of the scene, which looked rather surreal with some cars barely sticking out from under the massive mound of salt:

Meanwhile ABC7 was able to get a close up shot of the damage:

DNAinfo reporter Paul Biasco reports that the McGrath Acura GM says 11 cars were damaged from the collapse and that all will likely be totaled. Employees ran when they noticed bricks starting to fall from the building.

The Chicago Fire Department was able to snag another shot from a different angle that shows a better idea of the height of the salt mound, next to the company's iconic logo:
