Here's Further Proof Drone Videos Are Our New Obsession

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Jan 12, 2015 4:45PM

Want to know why drone videos are beginning to surpass timelapse as our videos of choice? Buying a drone with a camera is cheap these days, for starters! Then there are the aerial views drones can capture in a short span of time that timelapse enthusiasts can rarely get and would have to stitch together from hours of still photos. (We still love quality timelapse vids, by the way.)

But any camera is only as good as the person handling it, even remotely. Example: this nearly three-minute video from freelance photographer and videographer Colin Hinkle, which won us over with the aerial view of the Maggie Daley Park skating ribbon alone. Hinkle also avoids the pitfalls of only focusing on the loop with amazing captures of the Circle Interchange, the westbound Green/Pink Line "L" tracks, and more. Most impressive, Hinkle captured all this in some very cold weather, with temps in the single digits.

Fittingly, the name of the video is "Chicago: A Bird's-Eye View Part IV - Chiberia" and serves as a reminder that you can enjoy the cold without having to step outside.
