Wednesday Afternoon Diversion: The Sounds Of Saturn's Rings

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Jan 28, 2015 9:00PM

The news earlier this month of a planet 400 light years from Earth with rings 200 times the size of those surrounding Saturn had us remembering when NASA's Voyager probe passed the ringed planet in 1981.

Voyager's array of detectors were able to record the various electromagnetic phenomena happening with the rings' interactions with solar winds, magnetoshpere and emissions which could be amplified and heard through a speaker. It's a reminder of our place in the cosmos and, ultimately, how small that place can feel in the endless depths of space.
