Andy Rosenstein is familiar to most folks as a sideman in various bands, always ready to jump on whatever instrument is needed to fill a vacant space in a song. But four years ago he surprised many with the first Clip Art EP, a solo project devoted to his own material. It was an impressive collection of tunes that showcased a talent with a wide ranging grasp of musical history and the ability to seamlessly sew those influences together to create songs that felt honest and new. Fans of Jason Falkner, Jon Brion and Jellyfish can relate.

And then, aside form the occasional show, Clip Art went quiet. Rosenstein instead focused his energies on playing and touring with JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound for the next couple years. We assumed Clip Art was just a blip, a backing musician's momentary foray to the center of the stage, and we resigned ourselves to simply enjoying that initial batch of songs from the first EP.

But we were wrong! Last year Rosenstein decided to leave The Uptown Sound and focus on recording a genuine full length of his own work with longtime producing partner, and another mainstay of the local scene with his fingerprints on many other projects, Josh Shapera. Rosenstein recruited musician friends to fill out the songs. The result of all that hard work is Clip Art's debut LP, Culler, out at the end of March. And we have your first taste of the fruits of all that labor, "Airborne Ranger." It's a song of many movements, showing Rosenstein has moved past obvious influences to create something that feels classic and timeless. To these ears it sounds like a mini suite of music while still retaining the feel of a classic pop tune. Listen for yourself and let us know what you think.
