Dude-heavy shows—along with struggles for self-acceptance and confronting past demons—fill the Chicago stage this week.

Accidentally, Like a Martyr
Generations of gay men—some lonely souls, others struggling with middle age—confront issues old and new at a run-down bar in New York. A play disguised as a night in a dive bar? We’re in. The show runs through Sunday, March 1.

A Red Orchid Theatre, 1531 N. Wells St., 312-943-8722 or online.

La Cage Aux Folles
Kudos to suburban mega-theater Marriott for producing the musical riff on everyone’s favorite drag movie, The Birdcage. Bring on the glitter. The show runs through Sunday, March 22.

Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire, 847-634-0200 or online.

Red Bud
A group of guys—whose friendships have largely eroded—head out on their annual trip to a championship motocross race, except this year, one of them brings his underage girlfriend. Chaos ensues, of course. The show runs through Saturday, Feb. 28.

Signal Ensemble Theatre, 1802 W. Berenice, 773-698-7389 or online.
