- Soon after Fat Rice opened, they created a small lounge just to accommodate guests waiting for a spot at the wildly popular restaurant. Eater Chicago reports that the lounge will become its own destination when they transform it into a full-fledged cocktail bar. In addition, they are opening another space that will be a Chinese-style bakery in the day and a snack bar at night. But first owners Adrienne Lo and Abraham Conlon will head to Macau again for more inspiration. Look for the expansion by this summer.

- I think we’ve mentioned a zillion times that we miss Cicchetti, where Mike Sheerin served up the best polenta and pork rinds. These days we make sure to visit every pop-up he does, but soon we'll be able to get his food at his own new dumpling spot. Eater Chicago reports that Packed: Dumplings Reimagined will open in a few months.

- Southern and Soul Food aficionados now have an option in Lincoln Square with the opening of Luella's Southern Kitchen. DNAInfo Chicago reports the restaurant is serving up a Delta-influenced menu that includes classics like gumbo and fusion takes such as a kale ambrosia salad.
