In the digital day and age, being an artist can include so much more than your art. From running your own social media to using online streaming services to even the most basic knowledge of setting up a website, if you want to get creative and stay in budget (or under) learning the basics of software development is a must to promote what you love. The intersection of art and technology, especially in relation to a successful career, is becoming ever more apparent as we plug in more hours during our daily life. How do artists equip themselves with the tools to succeed and could this even turn into a profession outside of their art? These themes and more will be discussed tonight at Creative Coders, a panel put on by Dev Bootcamp.

Creative Coders will showcase artists and creative individuals who have transferred their skills and passion into a career in web development. Most artists are detail oriented, passionate and great problem solvers, so it's no surprise that skills like these translate well into the tech world. Creatives on the panel tonight will share how they approached learning to code (a daunting endeavor for any newbie to web development), what aspects of this industry appeals to them and how working in this field helps keeps them creative. Speaking tonight on the panel will be a poet, a photographer, an opera singer and an animator about their own personal experiences in web development. Tonight the group will attempt to answer the question; can coding be creative?

Head over today after work and take a look at how coding could help your art or even change your career. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. at Dev Bootcamp (351 W. Hubbard St, 7th Floor) and the panel starts at 5:30 p.m. and will last an hour with the ability to ask questions as well. The event is free. Registration is closed but walk-ins are welcome. And if you are interested in learning more, they'll have a tour of Dev Bootcamp after. If you aren't familiar with Dev Bootcamp, it's a immersive program that helps individuals learn the skills to work in web development, from Ruby to SQL, CSS and much more. If you've ever wondered about the inner workings of a career in tech, this panel would be a perfect way to dip your toe before diving in.
