An attorney representing the Jackie Robinson West Little League team has called on Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez to investigate whether whistleblower Chris Janes and others improperly gathered the data where some of the JRW players lived.

Victor Henderson of the law firm Henderson Adam sent the letter to Madigan and Alvarez Tuesday, questioning whether the information Janes used to file his complaint to Little League International was legally obtained. Janes said he initially became suspicious of where some JRW players lived after seeing a marquee in Lynwood—outside the boundaries the team can recruit players—naming one of the team members as a resident. Janes said he compiled voter registration records, vehicle registrations and other documentation and sent it to Little League International.

Henderson writes:

“We are concerned that vehicle registration or license plate information was improperly or even illegally searched to determine where parents or children live and that this information was sent across state lines to Little League International in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; other information, including school records, may have also been improperly searched.”

Henderson was hired by Jackie Robinson West after Little League International stripped the team of its national title, and said the team “are still the champions unless and until we find out that there was fair process that was even-handed and applied to every other team that may find itself in the same situation.”
