Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream Celebrates Wicker Park Opening With Free Scoops

Ice cream fan(atic)s and Wicker Park dwellers will have a new place to obsess over come next Tuesday, when Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream opens its second Chicago location at 1505 N. Milwaukee Ave. The Ohio-based shop, founded by chef Jeni Britton Bauer, currently has one Chicago shop just off the Southport Brown Line stop in Lakeview.

Flavor fiends be warned: Jeni’s has too many delectable choices to try in just one visit, including Pistachio and Honey, Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso, Goat Cheese and Cherries and even a Riesling Poached Pear Sorbet. If you want to be strategic about your artisanal ice cream-eating, consider trying one of the limited-edition flavors first, like Bangkok Peanut, Seven-Layer Bar or Lemon Buttermilk Tart Frozen Yogurt. Jeni’s is celebrating the opening with free scoops on Tuesday, March 17 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Additionally, the first 50 guests in line for will receive a mug featuring the colors of Jeni’s famed flavors. If you can’t bear to wait until Tuesday, check out one of the restaurants and independent grocers near you that currently sell Jeni’s pints, ice cream sandwiches sauces and scoops or stop by their Lakeview location.
