Honey Butter Fried Chicken Debuts New Fried Rice Pop-Up

By Lisa White in Food on Mar 30, 2015 9:45PM

Two of our favorite food groups are fried chicken and Chinese food so a mashup of the two is a match made in heaven to us. Honey Butter Fried Chicken agrees and is celebrating East meets South with their new series HBFC Takeout: Fried Chicken Fried Rice.

Usually the shop is closed on Tuesdays, but for the next four consecutive ones (March 31, April 7, April 14 and April 21) Honey Butter fans can head to the back door and fill up on HBFC's take on takeout. Each takeout order comes with one pint of fried chicken fried rice, one house-made egg roll and a handmade fortune cookie for $13.75 per order. And while you wait, have a cold one since a limited selection of beer will be available for purchase. Make sure to get there early, the back door is open for business from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. or until they run out of food.

The menus for the other three dates will be announced on social media, so make sure to keep an eye out for that. To kick things off tomorrow night, the first menu will include a fried rice with sansho-dusted fried chicken, preserved blood orange, roasted edamame, toasted seaweed and crunchy sesame cracker crumble. The egg roll of the evening is a five-spiced cabbage option with glass noodles, pickled shiitake mushroom and a sweet chili mustard dipping sauce. And to finish off your meal, a sweet treat with a handmade fortune cookie including a fortune from the creative staff at HBFC.

HBFC is a Chicagoist staff favorite when it comes to their bodacious fried bird and they always come up with creative specials at their shop. Make sure to head over on Tuesday and get yourself some takeout before they run out.
