Happy Ending For Pitbull Pup Tossed In Dumpster

By Selena Fragassi in News on Apr 25, 2015 7:00PM

Three months ago, in the freezing cold, a pitbull puppy was tossed in a city dumpster and left to die. When he was finally discovered, he was in rough shape including the loss of use of his back legs—but thanks to a camp of good samaritans, the dog now has a name (Josh) and a new chance at life.

According to DNAinfo Chicago, after Josh was taken in by Animal Control, he eventually found his way to the Chicagoland Bully Breed Rescue, a volunteer group that specializes in the often stigmatized “bully breeds” like pitbulls. The rescue organization offers adoption and fostering services and promotes the understanding of being a responsible dog owner.

Josh—now 9 months old and 37 pounds—found his foster mom with Ukrainian Village resident Erin Kowalski who just so happens to be a masseuse and gives the pup a daily treatment. She also takes him to physical therapy at Integrative Pet Care in Logan Square and has outfitted him with a dog wheelchair (a wheel cart that suspends his back legs) so Josh can retain his mobility and hopefully one day be able to walk fully on his own again. The costly regimen ($1,400 a month) is sponsored by Kowalski’s own nonprofit, Bialy’s Wellness Foundation, that helps animals with special needs.
