The 606 Is Going To The Dogs (On Leashes)

Good news, nature lovers and dog parents. When the 606 opens on June 6, your four-legged pals will be able to tag along, just as long as they're on a leash.

The new park and trail system which will run along Bloomingdale Ave. from Ashland to Ridgeway Ave., will connect 2.7 miles of the former Bloomingdale elevated trail and four street-level parks. And you and your leashed pup will have access to all of it; there will even be designated areas for canine romping at Churchill Park (at Damen Ave.) and Walsh Park (on Ashland).

This leashed-dog access policy is in line with that of the Lakefront Trail, according to the Trust for Public Land, which has been working with the 606 organizers and the Chicago Park District since the project's inception. It will provide a great alternative to downtown parks like Millennium Park and Maggie Daley Park, which remain off limits to dogs.
