Chewbacca Prank Leads To Actual Wookiee Roar Contest

By Lisa White in Arts & Entertainment on Apr 30, 2015 9:45PM

Remember the merry prankster who hung signs around town about a "Chewbacca Roar Contest," asking people to call an unfortunate (or lucky, depending on your fandom) soul and leave their best Shyriiwook greeting? We all had a good chuckle about it but people, this was real. You could have won cold hard cash for your best Wookiee roar! Now who's laughing?

Shortly after we posted the story, our friends over at TouchVision let us know the original "best prank ever" was put into motion by the girlfriend of one of their employees who wanted to make a memorable April Fools' Day for her beau. They told us it would be turned into an actual contest and, well, they did not disappoint:

We're fans of any competition where adorable dogs are judges, so clearly this competition won us over pretty quickly. A Chicagoist shoutout didn't hurt either. We appreciate contestant Jaik's eagerness by showing up in a Stars Wars shirt. It's a little on the nose but full of team spirit. We thought Dan was going to win it with his elegant explanation of love in Shyriiwook but after the first few rounds it was too close, which led to a suspenseful Chewbacca-off.

It was a close call, but we think Darren was the clear winner, especially with that double-handed wave move at the end. Congrats to Darren on his well deserved win. Or should we say instead, "Gggggaaaaaaarrrrr. Arrrrhhhn!"
