Those mourning the loss of Knocknox Café in Humboldt Park can now get their caffeine and wi-fi fix at C. C. Ferns, the coffee shop from Brendan Sodikoff that opened earlier this spring. It's the kind of a highly-stylized jungle oasis atmosphere where David Livingston and his team of intrepid cartographers might take a load off. C. C. Ferns offers a selection of traditional La Colombe espresso beverages, “boozy steamers” and doughnuts from Sodikoff's Doughnut Vault. Also for sale are cigars, which are displayed in a glass case behind two brown leather armchairs. The café is only open until 3 p.m. during the week and 4 p.m. on weekends, which is a little puzzling because of the booze offerings, but I suppose there is a market for that.

C.C. Ferns does exactly what it sets out to do: provides a stylish setting to meet, greet and sip well-crafted coffee drinks. That being said, it does not have the same relaxed, community feel that Knockbox provided.

C.C. Ferns is located at 2806 W. Augusta Blvd. behind the California Clipper.
