Illinois-Based Serta Dumps Donald Trump

Fresh off celebrity racist Donald Trump's "informative" speech at the City Club of Chicago Monday, Hoffman Estates-based Serta has decided to end its business relationship with the very serious presidential candidate.

When Trump officially announced his candidacy for the office of the President of the United States in a rambling, borderline incoherent 45 minute speech that the Washington Post helpfully transcribed, he made some very unpopular comments about Mexican immigration:

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Needless to say, these words have not set well with Trump's corporate partners, and Trump has seen his business relationships with big name companies like NBC and Macy's come to a sudden conclusion.

Since 2009, Serta has carried a line of Trump-branded mattresses, which are presumably the most luxurious and classy mattresses on the planet, with prices ranging from $1,299 to $2,999. Today, riding the rising tide of anti-Trump backlash, the mattress giant announced that it is "in the process of unwinding our relationship" with the businessman, according to Bloomberg.

In a statement, the company announced, "Serta values diversity and does not agree with nor endorse the recent statements made by Mr. Trump."

Most Chicago residents probably didn't need a reason to "unwind their relationships" with Trump after he continued to insist that his ugly sign on the side of his building was actually beautiful. But it's important to note that while he was in town, after telling us how we can make our city safer, he told the Tribune:

I don't know Bruce (Rauner) but I do respect Rahm. I gave him a contribution because his brother is a great friend of mine—Ari, king of Hollywood. I love Ari. And Ari asked me to give him a contribution. I like Rahm very much.

If you'd personally like to contribute to a Trump boycott in a meaningful way, you could buy yourself a few rounds of 5 Rabbit Cerveceria's Chinga Tu Pelo which will also help out a worthy cause. For locations, check out the list over at Good Beer Hunting.
