Fox Lake Manhunt Continues Into Second Day As Town Mourns Slain Cop

The manhunt for three men suspected of fatally shooting a Fox Lake, Ill., police officer Tuesday morning has stretched into its second day.

Scores of law enforcement officers are scouring Lake County in search of the three men, on the ground and by helicopter, and several area school districts have shut down for the day due to the search, according to the Tribune. The men are suspected in the tragic shooting death of Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, a longtime local police officer who is survived by four children and his wife.

Gliniewicz was on a routine patrol Tuesday morning when he was shot and stripped of his gear and gun, according to reports. The suspects should be treated as armed and dangerous, according to Lake County Undersheriff Raymond Rose, but descriptions of them are limited. They have been described as two white men and one black man.

Several hundred police officers from forces around the state, including Joilet, have been aiding the manhunt, Rose told the Tribune, and ATF, FBI and Secret Service agents are also searching. But some were beset by heat-related fatigue yesterday thanks to the 90-degree weather and had to be taken to local hospitals.
