Developers have broken ground on yet another luxury apartment rental building in Wicker Park.

This one, near the corner of Ashland Avenue and North Avenue, will have rents starting at $1,900 a month for a 675 square foot apartment to up to $4,000 a month for a 1,500 square foot penthouse unit.

Developer Sedgwick Properties called the luxury units a "much-needed" addition to the neighborhood, particularly on a block on the eastern edge of Wicker Park near the highway that has been somewhat spared from the neighborhood's redevelopment boom so far. Never mind that other parts of Wicker Park, Bucktown and Logan Square are seeing rents climb ever-higher and new luxury-style rental developments with even loftier price points.

"We are proud to have worked collaboratively with the city and area residents to contribute to the redevelopment of this stretch of North Avenue, improving the neighborhood and create a much-needed luxury housing alternative in an area where it has been missing," Marty Paris, the Sedgwick Properties president, said in a statement.

The apartments, at 1545 W. North Ave. will have a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units and is expected to be completed by next spring.
