Let's be honest, we all love the Christkindlmarket's signature mugs especially the boots returning this year.

In honor of the holiday market returning on Friday Nov. 20, the Tribune has put together a tribute to 20 years of Christkindlmarket mugs and we learned a lot of interesting facts about our Daley Plaza favorite.

The market has become a Chicago tradition but it's inspired by open-air Christmas markets all over Germany like Nuremberg's Christkindlesmarkt that started in 1545.

The mugs have more meaning that you might think: they're found in markets throughout Germany and characteristics like the shape, color and style can be unique to certain cities and "can even resemble regional shapes like landmarks or pottery style", Maren Biester Priebe, vice president and managing director of German American Services, which runs the Chicago market, told the Tribune.

You know how much you're drinking when you use one of the mugs: no matter what the shape or the design of the Chicago mugs, they each hold slightly less than one cup, according to Priebe.

If you're dying to get your hands on one of the 2015 boots, they went on sale Friday on the market's website.

Even though the official city Christmas tree is moving to Millennium Park this year, the market will be remaining in Daley Plaza where it's been held since 1997.
