We were sad and disappointed when Chef Sean Sanders announced in August that he was closing Browntrout, his locavore, family-friendly restaurant in North Center. But wait; the restaurant is getting a new life, sort of.

They're re-launching as a pop-up diner, Trout Kitchen, for one weekend only at their old Lincoln Avenue location (4111 N. Lincoln Ave.). Nov. 13, 14 and 15, Trout Kitchen will be serving "Eggs. Sandwiches. Pies. Coffee. Booze" for lunch (11-3) and dinner (5-10). The menu looks simple at first glance, but contains some amazing-sounding treats like an ice cream float made with apple soda and cheddar ice cream (a classic combination), a decadent homemade Monte Cristo with ham, turkey, bacon, gruyere cheese and raspberry jam, and a double cheeseburger made with local beef. The complete menu is below.

No reservations are available—the diner, like most diners, is first-come, first-served. They've got a new Instagram dedicated to the pop-up series, and they're teasing the dishes on it.

According to Chicago Magazine, this is only the first in a series of pop-ups that the chef plans to throw every two weeks. Each will have a different theme and menu. We can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
