Ride The CTA For Free This New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is a time for celebration, reflection, camaraderie...and waiting 2 hours in the vain hope of catching a cab at the end of the evening. Or arguing endlessly with your best friend that, no, they are not O.K. to drive as you try and wrest their keys away from them. This year you can avoid both of these situation by taking advantage of the Miller Lite Free Rides program on the CTA.

Riders can expect free rides—it won't even cost you 1ยข—from 10 p.m. on Dec. 31 through 4 a.m. on Jan. 1. The program is a partnership between Miller Lite, the CTA, and Chicago Beverage Systems, and it will apply to all CTA bus and train routes running between those times.

In an emailed statement CTA President Dorval Carter, Jr. writes, "The program encourages people to leave their keys at home and let the CTA be their designated driver." This program began in 2012 and has provided over 500,000 Chicagoans with safe transport on each NYE since then.

So take our advice and don't spend NYE as an active participant in making it the biggest amateur night of the year when it comes to partying around town. Get smart and let the CTA ferry you around for free. Just don't try to get off before your stop.
