Soar Above Wintertime Chicago In This Epic Drone Video

City In Motion from Drone Media Chicago on Vimeo.

Shot on a drone—two of them, actually—this video from Drone Media Chicago makes you feel like you’re soaring over the city.

Between the let's-duel-astride-horses instrumental music, the aerial shots, and the ice floes that visually scream “winter is coming,” it also really reminds us a lot of the Game of Thrones opening credits.

Troy Walsh, founder and owner of Drone Media Chicago, didn’t do that on purpose. He’s never seen Game of Thrones. His real intent was simple.

“I kind of just wanted to remind people that the city can still be really beautiful [in winter],” he told Chicagoist. “You have Mother Nature making a lot of great art in front you.”

This reel, shot from November through last week, captures that nicely, with wintertime shots taken in a mix of locations including downtown, the Lake Shore, Hyde Park, Humboldt Park, and Chinatown.

Walsh said he shot the footage on two poetically-named drones from DJI—one called the Inspire 1, the other the Phantom 3 Professional (which is also a great alias to put on a business card).
