Soaring Drone Video Explores The South Side's Industrial Landmarks

By Rachel Cromidas in Arts & Entertainment on Apr 4, 2016 2:56PM

A gorgeous new drone video soars over Chicago's industrial corners, including the Damen Silos and the Central Manufacturing District.

In a departure from many typical Chicago drone videos that focus their attention on Chicago's picturesque lakefront, east side parks, and The 606, this video visits some of Chicago's often-forgotten industrial hubs. Bridgeport's Central Manufacturing District, known for its massive campus and iconic brick tower, is a historic, 265-acre industrial park built over a century ago by investors who helped turn Chicago into a hub for major railroad lines and a center of commerce. The nearby, visually-stunning Damen Silos, meanwhile, are better known now as a popular location for film scouts—parts of Transformers: Age of Extinction were shot there.

The video, posted to YouTube last week, is by Chicagoan Andrew Krumtinger.
