Four people have been hospitalized as the result of a fire in a Lakeview apartment building late last night. The rear apartment fire started around 1:50 a.m., on the third floor of 3431 N. Janssen Ave.

To escape from the fire, a man and a woman jumped out of a third-floor window. Another two people—a man and a woman—were rescued from the building by firefighters, authorities said. All four were transported to nearby hospitals in serious to critical condition to be treated.

The Fire Department told the Tribune that they lost a few minutes searching for the six-unit apartment; the emergency call they had received had directed them to an address in the 3400 block of North Southport Avenue—a block east of the building.

The building next door to the fire sustained some smoke and water damage, but no one inside was injured, police said, and CPD's Bomb and Arson unit is investigating the cause of the fire, which is still unknown as of 10 a.m. Friday.
