The Kickback did the weather report in Cleveland.

When we shared the Kickback's debut album last year, we figured it would bring the band to new heights, but we didn't expect it would lead them to deliver the weather forecast during a morning newscast in Cleveland.

The Kickback has been on the road frequently since the album's release in September. They've played all over the country, and much of their touring adventures have been captured o their semi-regular podcast. But the band's Cleveland stop has sprouted possibly the strangest tour stop experience for them yet. Singer and guitarist Billy Yost appeared on the morning broadcast of Cleveland 19 News last Friday morning to deliver the weather.

Yost handled the duty solo, in front of a green screen, occasionally reading off the station's teleprompter ... and it went about as well as you'd expect. At one point he exclaims, "It’s Friday right? We’ve been up for 48 hours so I’m not really sure!”

In the clip below, the morning team helps guide Yost, gently reminding him when he's facing the wrong way, and they seem to be genuinely entertained by his antics. When Yost looks into the camera and says, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if the weather’s bad in Cleveland it’s twice as worse in Chicago where we are," everyone breaks down laughing.

Eventually Cleveland 19's regular weather person, Samantha Roberts, steps in offering to tag team the reminder of the report with Yost, but by then he's got it down, and wraps up his forecast saying, Let’s look at it this way; try not to think about next week, right now."

We think Yost might have a new career to fall back on should this band thing end up not working out.

The Kickback's next Chicago show is June 10 at First Ward at Chop Shop. Their tour dates until then are here.
