Two people were shot in what police termed a "road rage incident" that began on Lake Shore Drive early Thursday morning. A light-colored sedan—which the Sun-Times reports was a white Chevy Malibu—pulled up alongside the victims' car at 2:11 a.m., police said, and fired on the victims.

Though police didn't give an address for this initial shooting, the Tribune reports it happened on Lake Shore Drive near Michigan Avenue. Officers in the area heard gunfire and found the victims in the 600 block of S. Jefferson Ave., according to police.

A woman, 23, was shot in the head, and a man, 24, was shot in "the buttocks," police said. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, the woman in serious condition and the man in good condition. Police said that the woman's head injury was only a graze wound, though, and that she is now in fair condition.

Three witnesses, two women and one man, were in the car with the victims when the shootings occurred, the Sun-Times reports. Witness Nequan McCree, 20, told the Sun-Times that the victims were his siblings, described them as "people who work nine to five jobs," and said he didn't know why they were the targets of violence.

The two victims of this incident were among 20 people shot in Chicago in a 16-hour stretch, which began Wednesday and ran through early Thursday morning, the Tribune reported.
