A man was found unresponsive in the Franklin Park swimming pool in Lawndale last night, authorities say. The man, 27, was taken in critical condition from the 1400 block of South Kolin Avenue to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The park and pool were both closed at 12:50 a.m., when the man was found. Witnesses told police that the man jumped a fence to access the pool; beforehand, witnesses reported that he was drinking and smoking an unidentified substance.

Various outlets report that police believe the man accidentally drowned, though his autopsy has not been completed and the investigation of his death is ongoing.
