Chicago's epic line-up of striking skyscrapers and historic architectural gems got an international shout-out Friday when the city landed in the number two spot of USA Today's survey of the world's best skylines. The 2016 Reader's Choice poll rated the Windy City highly for its "world renowned mix of modern skyscrapers and early 'high-rise buildings,'" as well as its lakefront location. Chicago came in behind Dallas' skyline, which the report called "flashy" and "contemporary." The winning city also got points for its "colorful interactive lighting."

Chicago beat out Rio De Janeiro, Toronto, New York City, Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Hong Kong, San Francisco and Seattle.

"Chicago exudes the modern American spirit of a city destroyed by fire and rebuilt into a hotbed of progressive architecture," the survey's architecture expert James Adams was quoted as saying in the report. "A wealth of iconic skyscrapers that are timeless in their design make this skyline one of the best to gaze upon."

We tend to agree.
