A wrong-way driver hit a cyclist in the Loop late Wednesday evening, according to authorities.

The 23-year-old cyclist was riding near 55 W. Wacker Dr. at around 11:30 p.m. when he was hit by a car, apparently driving the wrong way on the Drive, who then fled the scene of the collision, a police spokesman told Chicagoist.

The cyclist was taken to Northwestern Hospital in stable condition and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was stopped near the State and Lake CTA station after he drove away, and police issued him several citations: for striking a pedestrian in the roadway, for leaving the scene, for traveling the wrong way on the road and for failure to keep in lanes.

ABC7 has photos and video of the aftermath of the collision, in which the bicycle and the car both appear to have busted front wheels.
