Just last night the Cubs tallied their 100th win for the first time since 1935; earlier this month they clinched their first division title since 2008; and—aside from Aroldis Chapman (a very big aside, grant you)—the players seems like a generally easy group to cheer for. But, dammit, some people just love to try and kill a bandwagon…

The awful, Trumpian hoodie pictured above has been doing brisk business, according to TeeChip, the site that hosts its sale.

We came across the South Side- and—by extension—POC-bating merch via Chicago Cubs Fans, an unofficial fan page on Facebook. (Yes, the “wall” cordons off what appears to be the Bridgeport area—a historically, and sometimes problematically, white, working-class neighborhood; but it extends pretty far, and the subtext is still pretty squirm-inducing.) Very much to their credit, CCF has removed the link to TeeChip. Before it was deleted, a comment thread showed some users defending the hoodie while others found it offensive.

This isn’t the first time enterprising makers of unofficial, loathsome Cubs apparel have struck (see, or don’t, this); and their White Sox counterparts are hardly innocent themselves (exhibit A). So maybe everybody could just take a deep breath and think before we jumping into these emptily provocative waters. Maybe just grab a nice Kyle Hendricks replica jersey instead?

An employee at TeeChip told Chicagoist that the team that monitors content tends to look for nudity, copyright infringement and foul language. Representatives from the company did not immediately return a request for comment. This post will be updated if we hear back.

Note: no, we did not link to the hoodie sale page because, clearly, we don't want you to buy it.
