Paul Kahan is expanding his benevolent restaurant empire once again, and this time that means good news for Wrigleyville: a second location of Big Star will be setting up taco-and-whiskey shop across from Wrigley Field early next year. (The Trib first reported the strong likelihood of the new location; DNA Info then pointed out Big Star's Instagram confirmation.)

Big Star 2.0 (Bigger Star?) will take up residence at the Ricketts-family-owned development that’s planned for Clark and Addison, just across from the Friendly Confines. As we noted earlier in the month, the development, called Zachary Hotel, in honor of Wrigley Field architect Zachary Taylor Davis, will be anchored by (appropriately) a boutique hotel. But developers also revealed at the time that some major food players would be involved, including One Off Hospitality, which owns and operates Big Star, the ever-popular Wicker taco patio. Side note: other food partners lined up include 4 Star Restaurant Group (Dunlays), Folkart Restaurant Management (Billy Sunday, Yusho) and West Town Bakery, so expect more big announcements soon, we think.

Another intriguing detail: New Big Star will be pretty massive. The Tribune notes that the taqueria will span two stories and 8,000 square feet. Initial reports make no mention of outdoor dining—which, bummer—but with the chance for Big Star tacos before or after Cubs games or Metro and Smart Bar shows, we know where not to eyeball this gift horse.
