A man looking for his ex-girlfriend entered a West Loop dental office carrying a gun on Thursday morning before fleeing and shooting himself in the alley outside, according to police and news reports.

A 37-year-old man entered the location at around 10:58 a.m., in the the 1000 block of West Madison Street, and started waving a gun, Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman, told Chicagoist. He then left the building and turned the gun on himself. He was pronounced dead on arrival, police said, and no other injuries were reported. Detectives are investigating, but police believe the shooting to be a domestic-related suicide.

A witness told the Tribune that he was escorted outside by a dentist, where he saw the man with a rifle. When the witness turned to flee, he heard the fatal shot.

DNA Info identifies the dental office as Skyline Smiles, in the West Loop.
