Seek And Destroy, Metallica Is Coming To Town

Just a couple of chill dudes.

Well, you can rule out Metallica as another possible Lollapalooza headliner.

Hot on the heels of the band's inscrutable if laudable duet with Lady GaGa at last night GRAMMYs awards, Metallica announced a big ol' tour, with a Chicago stop at Soldier Field on June 18.

The band released Hardwired...To Self-Destruct last year, and the double album was heralded as a return to basics for the group. This writer tends to agree with that reading of the album, though he does wish the album had been a killer single disc instead of a slightly bloated two. Oh well, it just adds even more to the catalog available to pull their set lists from, right?

Believer it or not, the group is an incredibly solid live band. We've seen them a number of times since the late'80s and each time they have left quite the impression. In recent years the band has taken to inviting a couple dozen fans on stage to dance and headbang away, and while that might sound kind of cheesy, it's actually rather effective in transmitting a small show vibe to the thousands and thousands in the audience. Think of it as the very metal equivalent to The Flaming Lips' stage antics.

Tickets are on sale to the general public this Friday, Feb. 17, and come with a copy of the band's new album. Score!
