Feel Like A Total Baller With This Awesome Caviar Sandwich From The Barn

The Barn, the new "modern meaterie" in Evanston from Amy Morton and Chef Nicole Pederson, is, as the name implies, focused on meat dishes. I'm talking big, hefty, fancy steaks sure to make beef-lovers weep with happiness. But during a recent visit, I encountered another dish that made me feel way more fancy than a big steak.

That dish was the Grand Central Caviar Sandwich. The message of this dish? I'm so fancy that I don't need my caviar served in a tiny portion with a mother of pearl spoon, surrounded by 40 square inches of crushed ice. I spread that sh*t on bread and chow down.

In all seriousness, the dish came from a visit Pederson and Morton took to Manhattan.

"Amy and I were on a whirlwind tour of Manhattan, we had a huge list of places to eat and we were heading past Grand Central and Amy decided to drag me in to the oyster bar," remembers Pederson. "She said, 'skip the oysters we are having Champagne and Caviar Sandwiches.' I fell in love with it!" The sandwich is served with creme fraiche, egg and chopped chives.

Pederson says it's part of her desire to make the whole menu "approachable and delicious." It's a great introduction to caviar, if you're not already a fan. Plus, as I already pointed out above, it feels indescribably awesome to be chowing down on a huge amount of caviar and butter in sandwich form.

The best part? Unlike at some places, your caviar won't be accompanied by a side dish of debt and sadness. This dish only costs $18.

The Barn is located at 1016 Church St., Evanston.
