Photos: Drink Wine Inside These Wacky Riverwalk Domes This Spring

Chicago's Riverwalk has become one of the most popular locations for relaxed drinking in the city. Visit any night after work, or anytime during the weekend, and you're going to find hordes of people trying to soak up some sun, water and relaxation during our all-too-short summer season. This year, the Riverwalk just got even better, thanks to City Winery.

City Winery opened its Riverwalk location in 2015, and it's become one of the most high-traffic spots on the waterfront, making a serious yearly dent in Chicago's supply of rose. Now they've announced plans to bring a series of transparent domes to the Riverwalk, so that guests can hang in out in all types of weather and keep on drinking.

Urban Matter reports that City Winery has constructed a series of domes (there's a photo of one on the back patio of City Winery's Randolph Street location) to keep patrons dry and warm. Reservations are already available, and the cost depends on how many people you want to bring, starting at $150 per person for 2 to 3 people. That cost includes 500 ml of wine per person (2/3 of a bottle) plus a cheese and charcuterie board. It's a bit pricy, but for a unique and exclusive view? We suspect it'll be booked solid in no time at all.

City Winery got the idea from a club in London, and nightlife spots in other riverfront areas, according to Brooke Webster, the general manager of the Riverwalk City Winery. She said the aim is to give Chicagoans and visitors the opportunity to enjoy drinking outdoors while it's still technically winter and early spring.

"We thought this would be a really unique Chicago experience to be able to do in any elements," she said. "You can have a very outside experience in March and April while being kind of cozy in something that feels private, but also allows you to see all the elements. but while being able to see all the elements. It's exciting to work, on because it's something I'd want to do with my friends or take my wife to."
