The familiar topic of President Donald Trump and Chicago violence came up at City Club of Chicago on Friday afternoon. But this time it was New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio chiming in and chastising the president for his all-talk-no-action obsession.

While speaking at the City Club of Chicago, de Blasio called out what he reportedly characterized as the president's empty gestures.

"I am sick of President Trump denigrating Chicago ... it's very painful stereotyping of cities. It is not constructive," he said, according to Bill Ruthhart of the Tribune.

"Stray tweets in the middle of the night are not stopping crime," de Blasio reportedly told the crowd.

The NYC mayor also dropped a stunning figure in terms of how much security at Trump Tower in New York has cost the city since the election: a whopping $24 million, he said.

Of course, this being Chicago and he being from New York, the talk at least partially veered toward the age-old which-is-better debate, WBEZ reporter Lauren Chooljian wrote. The dreaded hot-dog question in particular seems to have caused a minor stir.

And in what just may have been an expert troll job, the club served Lou Malnati's deep-dish pizza for the NYC's mayor appearance. The jury is out on whether de Blasio ate the pizza with a fork.

Similar to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, de Blasio has butted heads with Trump over the president's threat to defund so-called sanctuary cities, which do not assist the federal government with arresting undocumented immigrants.
