This year independent bookstores in Chicago are banding together in a big way for Independent Bookstore Day, which is tomorrow April 29. (Thanks, Amazon!) This is typically a fun day to visit your local bookseller—there is usually a lot of cool programming—but this year they're encouraging you to visit as many as you humanly can in one day.

The #MyChicagoBookstore Challenge works like this: visit one store and spend at least $25 and you will receive a luggage tag. Then you can proceed to visit other stores and collect luggage tags. You don't have to spend anything at subsequent stores (but if you're a book lover, you know how tough that is!). If you manage to visit 10 stores, you will receive 10% off at all the participating bookstores for the entire year. If you hit 15 stores, you can receive 15% off at all the participating bookstores for the entire year. Altogether there are 24 stores participating this year in the Chicago area.

Here's a map of all the stores participating so you can plot your path:

And here is the full list of participating stores. You can check out some of the different events through the consortium's Facebook page. (And check out our staff's list of the best bookstores around Chicago. There is some overlap between the two lists.)
