Officer Shot In West Garfield Park Friday Afternoon, Shooter In Critical Condition

A Chicago Police officer was shot this afternoon in West Garfield Park, according to a preliminary report from the police department. The alleged shooter was also shot and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition shortly after the Friday afternoon shooting.

One officer was shot in the vest in the chest area and taken to Loyola Hospital in stable condition. Another officer reportedly sustained minor injuries during the shooting and was taken to the hospital in good condition. The department plans to hold a press briefing outside Loyola Hospital in Maywood this afternoon.

The alleged shooter is a 25-year-old woman, who was shot in the abdomen, knee and thigh, according to police. The details of how she was shot have not been released yet. The shooting took place in the 4600 block of West Maypole around 2:30 p.m.
