Opart Thai Closed By Health Department After 2 Failed Inspections

It's never good when a restaurant fails a health inspection, but two in a row? That's a recipe for disaster.

Opart Thai in Lincoln Square, which regularly makes it onto lists of the best Thai restaurants in the city, was inspected on Oct. 16, and failed for a variety of reasons, including "over 30 live adult/infant cockroaches in kitchen prep areas," which the inspector described as an "infestation." Yikes!

But even at the best restaurants, sometimes mistakes happen (or lax oversight)—after all, that's what inspectors are for. But when you fail the second inspection, you know you're in trouble. The inspector who recently returned to the restaurant found there was another problem: rodents infesting the storage room at Opart.

I walked past Opart on Thursday, and there's a sign up that they're closed until further notice. Though with two failed inspections, it's possible they've lost some customers for good. If you're planning a visit, call first to confirm they are open.
