Update:
Singleton was ordered held without bail at a bond court appearance on Tuesday. Some chilling alleged details emerged in court. Stubbs cried out "Daddy don't" as she was being attacked, prosecutors said, according to the Sun-Times. The man, who the child victim considered a stepfather, had reportedly been released from prison in April after he was charged with assaulting the girl's mother.

Police have charged a man in the horrendous fatal stabbing and beating of a 12-year-old girl in Sheridan Park.

John Singleton, 31, was identified in reports as the former boyfriend of the victim's mother, and police said the killing is believed to have happened "during the course of a domestic dispute." Singleton faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of 12-year-old Alexis Stubbs, which happened Sunday night, at around 9:45 p.m., in the 4600 block of North Beacon Street.

Citing a police source, the Tribune reports that Singleton was at the mother's apartment on Sunday, and she called authorities when she wanted him to leave. The fatal attack reportedly happened as they waited for police to arrive. The mother and girl had gone outside, but Stubbs returned to the apartment building to talk to a neighbor just before she was killed. Stubbs was stabbed several times, and a hammer may have been used in the murder, according to ABC7.

Police reportedly found Singleton hiding in a nearby portable toilet after tracking down his cellphone pings.

Singleton was out on parole and had been released from prison in April, according to the Sun-Times. He pleaded guilty to domestic battery and other charges in 2014, and had been arrested multiple times over the last five years.

Singleton is scheduled to appear in bond court on Tuesday.
