The City of Aurora is aiming to make history on July 4th, when they hope to gather enough people in RiverEdge Park toto help break the Guinness World Record for "Most People Head Banging Simultaneously."

It's in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the release of Wayne's World. No way! WAY!

The current record is 320 people, and Aurora is pretty confident they can easily beat that. They're so confident that they are limiting official participation to the first 1,000 arrivals who register onsite. The record will be challenged right before the city's official fireworks display, when The Fox Valley Orchestra rips into "Bohemian Rhapsody" to commence the head banging.

According to organizers, the rules are simple.

  • Wear flannel or a bandana (optional).
  • Gather in front of the stage during the "signal song" "Stairway to Heaven."
  • Sing along to "Bohemian Rhapsody" and when cued (you know the part) head bang!

So tease out your mullet, throw on your favorite band t-shirt, and head to RiverEdge Park Tuesday night if you want to take your place in head banging history.
