Fork is a packed neighborhood standby in Lincoln Square, while Knife is a new steakhouse close to the border with North Center. Fans of both restaurants were surprised this past weekend when longtime Chef Timothy Cottini announced his departure.

The chef announced his departure on Facebook.

"After 5 years, two restaurants and great memories I will be moving on from Fork and Knife! Thank you to everyone for all of your support and to all of the people I have worked with over the years here at Fork, Knife and prior restaurants, I want to say something that isn't said enough. THANK YOU!"

Cottini will be heading to Shaw's Crab House in Schaumburg. His last shift at Fork will be this Saturday, July 9.

Cottini won praise for his efforts at Fork, elevating that menu into a local food-focused spot with a strong cheese and charcuterie program. His most recent effort, Knife, hasn't been quite so well-recieved.
