Three years after bringing a version of his acclaimed Yusho to Hyde Park, chef Matthias Merges has shut down the restaurant.

Eater Chicago reports that Yusho is closed, while the other Merges-helmed Hyde Park spot, A-10, will remain open. In addition, the Yusho outpost in Las Vegas has shut down.

Merges was one of the first big chefs to take a risk moving to Hyde Park as the University of Chicago worked to redevelop 53rd Street between 2011 and 2014. Results of restaurant openings in the neighborhood have been mixed; Yusho didn't make it, Packed lasted less than 4 months, and Clarke's Diner didn't survive. Our theory that Hyde Park might become a new restaurant hotspot did not come to pass (at least not yet). Keep an eye on the Promontory!
