If you've been hoping to see some those spectacularly alien-looking undersea creatures on display at Shedd Aquarium but don't have a lot of disposable income squirreled away, take note of the month of September (or at least the vast majority of it). General admission to Shedd will be free of charge from September 6 through 30 for Illinois residents, the aquarium announced on Friday.

The free admission even grants you access to some of Shedd's special exhibitions, including Waters of the World, Amphibians, the aquatic show and (oh my) the Stingray Touch experience. Considering that regular adult admission for Chicago residents is usually $19.95, the savings are not insignificant. Visitors who plunk down $4.95 will get the 4-D Experience upgrade—which combines 3D films with a bunch of added sensory bells and whistles.

The free days also overlap with and cover admission for the final two Jazzin' at the Shedd performances, according to a press release. Good news if this weekend's Jazz Fest leaves you craving an encore.

Shedd (1200 S Lake Shore Drive) is also asking aquarium-goers to share photos of themselves throughout the free run with the hashtag #ClearYourSheddule. See what they did there?
