With just a couple days left until the technical end of summer, the temperature could hit the low-90s in Chicago this week. Wednesday has been a bit of an unexpected scorcher so far, and The National Weather Service is forecasting highs between 85 and 92 degrees on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and a high of 83 to 87 on Sunday.

There's also a chance of scattered thunderstorms late Wednesday night in the Chicago area, but don't expect that to break the heat spell by much. The NWS describes this week's conditions as muggy, humid and sunny. So maybe wait another week before grabbing that Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Update: The high was 92 today in Chicago, and in case you were wondering, it hasn't been this hot on Sept. 20 since 1971!
