Photos: The Awful Tension & Joyful Victory Of NLDS Game 5, Outside Wrigley Field

The Cubs clawed, rallied and survived to beat the Washington Nationals 9-8 in the completely bonkers and almost comically nerve-wracking Game Five of the National League Division Series on Thursday night, to advance to their third consecutive Championship Series. And even though the instant classic—with its constantly threatened leads, at-times queasy-making pitching and multiple controversial calls—took place at Nationals Park, the North Side faithful of course flooded the streets outside Wrigley Field and at the Park at Wrigley to take in the drama. Our photographer Tyler LaRiviere headed up to the area around the Friendly Confines to capture the sights of so many anxiety-riddled-turned-elated fans. Relive the mania in the faces above. If your heart can take it.
