Despite facing criticism that Eddie and JoBo were way too old to be broadcasting "hits and hip hop" to the audience of B96, they soldiered on as morning hosts of the longtime CHR station for decades. Well, not any more – AllAccess.com reports that E&JB have been given the boot by CBS execs. Newcomer J Niice takes over in the short term. The Killer B's program director, Todd Cavanah, told All Access, "We celebrate EDDIE......

musicFIRST's Alice Peacock testifying before Congress with Lyle Lovett Imagine you’re an actor on a hit TV show. The show has a few healthy seasons and a loyal following, and with a still-hungry audience champing at the bit, it is immediately syndicated on cable television after the series finale. Viewers find it on various networks at numerous times of day, and years later the show ends up on Nick at Nite, celebrated for decades......

WBEZ's experimental user-generated Vocalo station has a Twitter feed. And they want to hear from you! Badly! If you pledged to WBEZ, your money's going to Vocalo. More after the jump.........

Is Vocalo bleeding WBEZ dry? That's how it looks from this week's Hot Type. Three weeks ago [President and general manager of Chicago Public Radio Torey Malatia] held a staff meeting and announced some bad news: there wasn’t enough money. This meant that WBEZ’s top project, Right Now, a daily afternoon news show with a producer Malatia had hired away from NPR's Talk of the Nation, was being shelved. The Sunday arts program Hello Beautiful......

When Mike North wasn't on air on Monday, it seemed like the typical negotiating ploy that stations use against on-air talent as contract renewals approach. Instead North found out on yesterday, via e-mail, that The Score (670AM) rescinded their last offer and he's finished with the station after 16 years. North believed he might be on the way out at The Score—management was openly exploring other options, and there have been rumors for a while......

Is long-time WSCR host Mike North going off the air? His contract is up in July, and ratings for his show are down--plus he makes $1.5 million a year, and WSCR may not want to cough up that kind of dough again. Trends do fluctuate, and nearly every WSCR show was down in April. Still, this would be like Konerko trying to negotiate an extension after hitting below .200 in September. If the Score's best......

Two Chicagoistas snuck in amongst the indie rock glitterati two weeks ago for a taping of an interview with Death Cab for Cutie on Sound Opinions. The crowd of only a couple hundred that gathered to bear witness was treated to a mini-concert by the band, interspersed with the off-the-cuff interview style of tag team show hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot. The intimate setting made the now famous west coast rockers seem very accessible......

“Hello Americans, this is Paul Harvey...” Lynne “Angel” Harvey, the woman behind those words and many of Paul Harvey’s best known broadcast features, died yesterday at their River Forest home. Last May, Paul Harvey told his radio audience that Lynne had been diagnosed with leukemia. Lynne Harvey was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate at Washington University, and she was working at KXOK when she met Paul Harvey. In 1940, they married and later moved to......

The Peabody Award winners were announced today, and among them is Chicagoist fave Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me. The Peabody board describes the show thusly: "A zippy update of one of broadcasting's long-ago staples, this live quiz show reminds listeners of the week's news even as host Peter Sagal and various panelists make witty sport of it." Peabodys are arguably the most prestigious awards in broadcast, and there are no set categories or numbers of winners.......

“I miss the beat,” says Bill Cameron. “But hopefully I'll be able to get back to it sooner rather than later.” Cameron is no longer on that beat because he was let go by his employers, WLS Radio, a couple Fridays back in what's being called the Leap Day Massacre. So, seeing as how he had some extra time on his hands, we decided to get in touch with him and talk about nearly 40......

Since the 1986 release of his debut album Guitar Town, Chicago has long been home to one of Steve Earle's strongest fan bases. He's such a gifted songwriter that fans often overlook the fact that he's essentially made the same record since 1996, right down to the obligatory duet with a female singer, "state of my life" liner notes and beautiful artwork by his good friend, the local artist and noted unemployed film-goer Tony Fitzpatrick.......

Ah, late February in Chicago. Cubs tickets go on sale today, there's a forecast for a high temperature above 35 degrees next week, and thousands of indie rock kids around Chicago will soon be shedding their parkas for high-priced hoodies bought from Wicker Park boutiques (tip: ours cost us $12 at Target!) for several worthwhile shows around the Chicago area. Lots of tickets go on sale this weekend. So, despite this crappy weather, there is,......

When it's this cold and icy, the last thing we can imagine doing is sitting outside at a ball game. But spring will one day arrive, and we're sure some of you will want to spend time enjoying the nicer weather at Wrigley Field. Cubs individual game tickets go on sale on Friday at 10:00 a.m. CST, which means it's almost time for the annual tradition of calling in sick or hijacking unused computers throughout......

While the Cubs and their fans held their annual love-in last weekend, this past weekend the rest of us gathered at the Palmer House Hilton to celebrate and commiserate with fellow White Sox fans. Given the airing of grievances by fans and feats of strength by team management, it could very well have been renamed SoxFestivus. Well, that was a storm in a teacup. Steve Dahl did not in fact have Drew Peterson on the air this morning for a dating contest. From Steve's blog today: I had no intention of ever going through with the Dating Game idea, once I got off the air and had the chance to think it through. Besides, Drew is still legally married, so he’s not really allowed to date yet. I’m very old school.......

From the show's log: 7:57 Steve has a situation......
