(Legendary Chicago-based photographer Art Shay has taken photos of kings, queens, celebrities and the common man in a 60-year career. In this week's look at his archives, Art reflects on the last time tensions between police and protesters exploded, as Chicago prepares for the NATO summit.)

Chicago 7, 10
This August will be the 40th anniversary of one of the CPD’s darkest hours (oh, but there are so many to choose from): the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The milestone will be commemorated on the silver screen with the release of a new movie, Chicago 10, which opens in theaters nationwide tomorrow. [See our October review.]
CIFF: "Chicago 10"
This is part of Chicagoist's continuing coverage of the Chicago International Film Festival. Filmmaker Brett Morgan introduced last night's screening by clarifying that his movie Chicago 10 is not a sequel to Chicago the musical. He was joking, but we could all use a little refresher on the events of August 1968, when riots turned the Loop and Lincoln Park into battle zones between the police and protesters. The chronology of the whole nightmarish week...
Jennings Sends His Love
Packer Jennings’ gleefully subversive panels, journalistic mash ups, and participatory projects hearken back to Abbie Hoffman’s Vietnam-era jabs at The Man. Jennings claimed he was unfamiliar with the Yippie agitator when we made the comparison at Three Walls last weekend, but Corporate America’s most aggravating philosophies and practices haven’t changed much since Hoffman’s klepto manifesto started disappearing off bookshelves. Three Walls’ latest exhibit features Jennings’ instruction panels for the aspiring revolutionary. Our favorite series imagines...
Springfield Librarian Steals from the Poor and Gives to the Rich
Chicagoist has always thought of library work as a noble calling--you gotta do it for the pure love of it, not the money. That is, until we learned about one Springfield librarian who has been raking in the dough (not to mention her own personal library) by skimming off donated materials. Lori Burger allegedly pilfered a couple thousand books, CDs, and videos from a public library in Springfield, selling about half on Ebay for...
David Dellinger, 88, Father of the Chicago Seven
David Dellinger, the oldest member of the Chicago Seven, died Tuesday in a retirement home in Vermont. He was 88. A famous peace activist and union organizer who called himself a "moral dissenter" in his 1993 autobiography, Dellinger is remembered for his role in the riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Need a little refresher on Chicago activism? The 1968 Democratic National Convention drew thousands of anti-Vietnam War protestors into Chicago in late August....
