Our first reaction at seeing this video was "NO!" But we kept watching, and no matter how difficult it is, we have to say that this video gets better at the end.
Tuesday Afternoon Diversion: Bulldog Elevator Accident
Today in CTA Rail Delays
If it isn't one thing, it's another. Service on the CTA Red Line was disrupted for a few moments this morning when a woman apparently lost consciousness and fell on the tracks at the Howard station. Power was shut off at the station as rescue workers moved to remove the woman from the tracks. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Another Day, Another Red Line Delay
Red Line trains were delayed this morning when a train operator who was checking on an equipment malfunction somehow managed to slip on the tracks. The incident happened around 10 a.m. at the Granville Station. Power was shut off from Thorndale to Howard and shuttle buses were running from Belmont to Howard. Power was eventually restored at 10:45.
Traffic Lights + Blowing Snow = Danger?
While modern LED traffic lights have proven to be energy savers, it's during the winter when we're reminded that there's a hazardous side effect. Because these lights use less heat and give off less heat, any blowing snow that piles up in each light doesn't really melt, creating confusion as drivers can't see the obscured lights. Local government officials - many who have pushed the use of LED lights - say such instances are rare. Indeed, you've got to get a lot of bowing snow and it would take swirling, blizzard conditions to obscure every single signal in an intersection. The solution? Constant vigilance and brooms to sweep the snow away. The Tribune takes a closer look at this and what officials are doing to combat this occasional hazard.
Schaumburg Giving Red Light Camera The Boot
Citing a lack of results, the city of Schaumburg is getting rid of the one red light camera they had installed. Curious to see how the cameras worked, the city installed one at a particularly busy intersection close to Woodfield Mall. What happened next led to the eventual decision to scrap plans for more.
Chicago Mag Looks At Free-For-All On Lakeshore Bike Path
Riding to work Wednesday morning this Chicagoist staffer and avid cyclist was doored ever-so-slightly by a trucker. While tending to the minor scrapes incurred from the sudden braking and subsequent tumble, the trucker proceeded to yell at us about how we shouldn't be on the street. Until we grabbed the bike lock and took a couple of swings at him. An accident happening while cycling (for us) is rare and we ride on the streets all the time. Still, it's is a hell of a lot safer than being on the lakeshore path, which often takes on a chaotic anarchy with all the joggers, cyclists, rollerbladers, beachgoers and tourists afoot.
Driver, Painting Nails, Kills Motorcyclist
A suburban motorcyclist died Saturday night when another driver, painting her fingernails behind the wheel, slammed into her stopped bike at a yellow light in Lake Zurich. According to Lake County Coroner Richard Keller, the biker, Anita Zaffke, died of chest and abdominal injuries sustained in the incident at the intersection of Route 12 and Old McHenry Road (pictured right) when a Chevrolet Impala rear ended her bike around 5:30 p.m. Zaffke was wearing a helmet, and was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where she was pronounced dead an hour later.
